Black Box Take Stock

To celebrate Travelling Gallery’s 40th anniversary we commissioned a new installation by performance artist Gordon Douglas.

Douglas became interested in the operation and upkeep of the Travelling Gallery vehicle and, as a performance artist, what acts of maintenance go into performing the narrative, social collaborations and technologies of the gallery.

Using the literal mechanics of the bus Douglas collaborated with Birthdaygram Mike Collins, AKA ‘The Wandering Minstrel’, to create a series of personalised messages performed and filmed in the unseen sites of the Travelling Gallery’s tour.

A mini Travelling Gallery archive will be on tour with us for the 40th birthday tour.
